Java Edition
Weapons use an attack cooldown and sweeping attacks.
Edition comparison
Java and Bedrock combat share weapons, armor and health but differ in attack timing, sweeping, shield interaction, reach and several enchantment formulas. Damage advice should always name the target edition.
Java vs Bedrock: CombatWeapons use an attack cooldown and sweeping attacks.
Combat retains different timing and mobile-friendly controls.
| Feature | Java Edition | Bedrock Edition | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attack timing | Melee damage is tied to an attack-cooldown meter; well-timed hits reach full strength. | Vanilla Bedrock does not use Java's same player attack-cooldown system. | Click timing and damage-per-second strategies are not directly portable. |
| Sweeping attacks | A sufficiently charged sword attack can sweep nearby targets, and Sweeping Edge increases that damage. | The current Bedrock registry does not include Sweeping Edge or Java's equivalent sweep attack. | Java mob-clearing sword advice can overstate Bedrock area damage. |
| Axes and shields | Axes recover slowly, hit hard and can disable shields. | Axes and shields use Bedrock-specific damage and activation rules. | Java PvP weapon rankings do not transfer cleanly to Bedrock. |
| Enchant formulas | Sharpness uses Java's 0.5 × level + 0.5 bonus formula. | Sharpness adds 1.25 damage per level in Bedrock. | Identical gear labels can produce different raw bonuses. |
Choose a design, command or workflow explicitly tested for your edition; combat behaviour is not always portable.
