How the effect is applied
Hunger is classified as a bad effect. Duration, amplifier behavior, particles and sources depend on the command, potion, beacon, mob or game event that applies it.
Command
/effect give @p minecraft:hunger 60 0/effect give- Applies a status effect to a target.
@p- The nearest player to where the command runs.
minecraft:hunger- The namespaced identifier for Hunger.
60- The duration in seconds.
0- The zero-based amplifier; 0 means effect level I.
This example applies level I for 60 seconds. Instant effects and non-command sources can behave differently.
